Here's a list of cars I have considered owning over the last few years

Kinja'd!!!1 Kinja'd!!! 13

Some I have driven, some I have not. Some I regret, some I don’t. Most are sedans, some are *Shudder* crossovers. Ok here goes...

Kinja'd!!!

2017 Fusion sport- I was close to leasing one. I was on the forums since the time it was announced. It was one of the best new sleepers IMO at that time. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but it was handsome looking and powerful. And then the problems started coming in, dead batteries and other crap. So many of them were lemons. abandoned the idea. Dodged a bullet there.

Kinja'd!!!

Its older cousin the 2014 MKZ 3.7 AWD. Thought it would be a fine fast luxury sedan with decent handling. Didn’t test drive this but I did drive a 2.0T AWD and was not impressed. Myford touch was a pain. New Sync 3 is very good.

Kinja'd!!!

2012 Acura RL. I have always wanted to own a SH-AWD acura. Thinking back this is something I’d probably buy 10 years from now when I am in my 40s.

Kinja'd!!!

Legacy 3.6R- Glad I didn’t go this route because that CVT was so bleh- tried it in the Forester and WRX

Kinja'd!!!

Subaru Forester XT. Again THAT CVT but thought the turbo would make up for it, a sleeper family vehicle (At least it was back then). Thought I was ready to move from sedans, glad I was wrong.

Kinja'd!!!

Regal GS. Read a lot of good reviews about it but decided to go for a RWD layout again. Also the resale value was atrocious

Kinja'd!!!

Hyundai Genesis 5.0R spec. Loved the idea of ta RWD v8 Korean super sedan but apparently has lot of oil consumption problems, and the fuel efficiency is bad.

Kinja'd!!!

GS350 F sport- This, and the Acura TL SH-AWD were in my top 3 pics before I went with the G. Also looked at the IS350 but it was cramped. Would have been a solid choice, even if not as sporty as I wanted.

Kinja'd!!!

2014 C300 4matic- Good overall car, not great in any one aspect. Only thing was 248HP/251 Lb-ft was not big jump from the 230HP e90 I had. Decided to go for more performance.

Kinja'd!!!

Ex35- is basically a lifted hatchback G37. I would have been Ok with this. I like the way the FX looks as well. That with the 5.6V8 would have been awesome crossover regardless.

Kinja'd!!!

BMW X135i- I would have gone for this with the M sport package exactly as shown in blue or orange, or better the 335i but a BMW to BMW move was boring and I wasn’t too excited about the N55 turbo reliability. This would have been a great sporty yet practical vehicle though as it is based on the RWD e9x series.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

What do you think? Good, Meh, Terrible choices?

They should have put the 5.0 R-Spec in the Genesis Coupe

My friend wanted to buy the 3.8 R spec, test drove one but went with a previous gen WRX because boost.

I know a past colleague who had one for a few years then went for a Camaro SS, and now drives an Alfa 4C

Solid choices, as are your reasons for not going with them. How’s the G treating you?I feel like   that was where Infiniti peaked, but it perhaps stuck around too long. Not the best fuel economy ( this is a theme with Japanese V6 engines for some reason), but a good choice.

No consideration of Audi at all?

The MKZ is why I bought a used MKZ over a used Fusion Sport several years ago - same car (for the prior gen) with more toys. Actually, I share a lot of want for quite a few cars on this list for a lot of the same reasoning.

At one point I wanted an S4 so bad but then I started researching the forums and all I read was horror stories on electrical, cooling system failures, at least back then 2010-2015ish.

The A4's 2.0T didn’t have the power or character of the E90s I6 and unreliable, anecdotal evidence but several friends had these and they told me to stay away. The 3.2V6s were better but they were rare. the 3.0 S4 engine was a hit or miss. After 5 years of BMW (It was average save for some electrical stuff and sensors) I wanted something very reliable but had the performance, handling and decent luxury features as the Germans.

I did drive the latest A4 this year and I was impressed. ALso reliability has increased significantly. The new 3.0Turbo S4 is on my list for future cars, I will be researching that one on the forums for the next few years.

Yup. Infiniti really did peak with the G37 , all downhill from there with the Q50 . The G has been great so far. It’s a gas guzzler for sure but my commute is just 5 miles one way. 17.5MPG in the city, 25 freeway on average. Loving the power, steering feel, handling, ride and the comfortable seats. Infotainment is old school but works perfectly every time.

Wish the 7 speed was better but that’s a known shortcoming, wish body roll was more controlled, needs better tires than the Hankooks I have now.

Perhaps driving the 3.7AWD could have changed my mind. Anyway , The new MKZ is much improved interior and exterior, and tech IMO . Plus the 400HP AWD 3.0T version is a proper sleeper. Not people even know that it exists.

I had the old gen split wing grill, 2012. Tune and intake, it wasn’t a slouch - not a sports car though. The prior 2013-2016ish is dropping in to stupidly cheap range already, it would be a great daily cruiser

Everything you describe on the G is exactly what I would expect. I’m sure you can address the body roll via suspension upgrades if you want to ( or not).

Can’t blame you on the Audi. I want to like them, but the drive always disappointed me, though it’s nice to see they seem to have addressed reliability issues.

The N55 isn’t as bad as you would think it is (Thanks for the preconceived notions N54). It will take a little more effort to maintain but the people who I know who have N55s have been extremely happy with the experience.

An  X1 35i sounds like an awesome sleeper.
